||“Behavioral issues in children with autism are often caused by medical illness, which requires medical evaluation. Yet, those behaviors often prevent simple transportation to medical evaluations.”

AUTISM AND AIR TRAVEL
Individuals with autism may demonstrate unusual and difficult behaviors, particularly if they are anxious or in an unfamiliar environment. These behaviors may include crying, screaming, and making strange noises. Additionally, some individuals may have self-injurious or aggressive behaviors. For any traveler, commercial airline travel; fraught with crowded airports/airplanes, travel delays, and security checks, can be stressful. For families affected by autism, it can be virtually impossible.Travel difficulties related to autism are seen constantly. In June 2008, much media attention was given to a mother and her two year old autistic son who boarded and then were removed from and American Eagle flight because of her son’s “meltdown.”
Autism Escapes will be providing travel on private jets, thereby avoiding many of the potential problems of commercial air travel. Additionally, private air travel enables the family and child to be relaxed about any odd or unusual behaviors that other passengers might find disruptive.
